About posit::conf(2025)

What is posit::conf?

posit::conf is our annual conference that focuses on the R and Python programming languages and their applications in data science. The conference features a variety of workshops, talks, and networking opportunities for attendees, with a particular emphasis on fostering a sense of community among data science professionals. In addition to providing opportunities for learning and professional development, posit::conf also aims to create a fun and engaging atmosphere that encourages attendees to connect with one another and explore the latest trends and technologies in the field.

What will happen at posit::conf(2025)?

posit::conf(2025) is taking place September 16th - 18th (Tuesday - Thursday) in Atlanta, GA! Workshops take place during day one only (September 16th), followed by two days of the main conference.

Throughout the general conference days, attendees can look forward to popular features such as Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, the lounge, swag giveaways, and an event reception. More specific event details will be released soon!

Who should attend?

Posit::conf is the ultimate hub for making connections in the open-source community and caters to all data professionals with a strong emphasis on data scientists, data science managers, and data decision makers.

Will there be a virtual option to attend?

While we strongly believe you will get the most value out of connecting in-person with the community at posit::conf, we do offer the option to purchase a virtual ticket to access the live stream of all keynotes and sessions on September 17-18. Virtual registration will open in May 2025.

What should I wear?

We encourage you to dress comfortably as our conference has a casual atmosphere. Please note that conference space temperatures can vary, so we suggest bringing layers.

Will there be a mobile app?

Yes, the mobile app for the conference will be available for download approximately three weeks before the event. Registered attendees will receive instructions on how to download the app when it becomes available.

Will there be swag?

Yes!

How long will the Discord server be available?

We will shut down the Discord server on Wednesday, August 21st at 12 pm ET.

Where can I find the virtual swag bag?

When will recordings be on YouTube?

We will post the recordings on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@PositPBC) 3 months after the conference is over. Live stream recordings will remain available on the event portal for all who registered (in person or virtual).

How can I register for posit::conf(2025)?

You can register for the conference here. Registration for the workshops and the main conference are all available through the same link.

What is included in my registration?

Your registration includes two days of access to all keynotes, talks, The Lounge, and the exhibitors. It also includes morning coffee and tea, break refreshments, lunch daily, and two evening events. Please wear your badge when attending evening events. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate unregistered outside guests this year.

Are there group discounts?

Yes, we offer a discount for groups of 3+ from the same organization. The group registration rate per person is $1,199. Email conf@posit.co if you plan to register as part of a group, and we’ll send the group discount code to enter at checkout.

Do I need to register for the virtual experience?

Yes, attendees must register for the virtual experience for conf. To get a virtual ticket use the same registration page. Tickets for virtual registration will be opened in May 2025.

How long will the academic rate be available?

The academic rate will be available until the event start date or until we sell out.

Workshops

Where can I find the list of workshops?

You can find the complete list of workshops here.

Can I switch workshops?

Certainly! As long as there is availability, you can switch to another workshop as long as there are open seats in the workshop you'd like to switch into. You can switch workshops within your event portal.

Is there a virtual option for workshops?

We believe in providing the best in-person experience possible for our workshops, and therefore do not offer virtual options. However, all course materials will be posted to GitHub approximately one week after the program ends and will be available to the public.

Do you offer any discounts on workshops?

No, we do not offer any discounts on workshops other than the academic rate.

Where is my workshop located? Where is the conference located?

All conference programs will be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. As we get closer to the event, specific room locations will be announced for each workshop, which can be found in the mobile app.

Do I need to bring my own laptop to the workshop?

Yes, please bring your own laptop. If you encounter any issues, please feel free to contact us at conf@posit.co for assistance.

Where can I view the full agenda for posit::conf(2025)?

What are Birds of a Feather?

Birds of a Feather sessions are opportunities for conference attendees with similar interests, backgrounds, and aspirations to network and connect. More information will be shared soon with details on the 2025 Birds of a Feather sessions.

Speakers

I would love to give a talk at the conference. When is the call for papers?

Call for papers will launch on January 10, 2025 and will stay open for 3 weeks.

Is the registration fee waived for people whose talks get accepted?

Yes, we offer waived registration fees for accepted speakers.

What is covered by "needs-based travel assistance" for selected speakers?

Selected speakers may receive travel assistance, including flights and accommodations. We may also consider special accommodations such as child or elder care. If you have any specific concerns or requests, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Cancellations & subscriptions

How do I cancel my registration?

Please email us at conf@posit.co to cancel your registration.

Do you offer a full refund, and are there any limitations?

Yes, we offer a full refund for any reason up until July 12th, 2025. From July 12th - August 15th cancellations will receive at 50% refund. After these dates, we will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at conf@posit.co for further information.

Can I transfer my registration to another person?

Absolutely! Please reach out to us at conf@posit.co to transfer your registration to another person.

Discounts

Who qualifies for the academic discount?

The following categories of people are eligible for the academic discount: students, teachers/faculty, university staff directly involved in teaching R/Python, and university staff involved with maintaining data science teaching servers. During the registration process, attendees will be asked to select their status. The discount will be automatically applied.

Do you offer a discount to non-profit organizations/NGOs or government organizations?

Yes, we offer a discounted registration discount for government and non-profit organizations. The discounted rate is $1,199. During the registration process, attendees will be asked to select their status. The discount will be automatically applied.

COVID Guidelines, Code of Conduct, and Privacy

Do you have to be vaccinated for COVID to attend this year's program or wear a mask?

At this time, we do not require attendees to be vaccinated or wear masks, but we will follow the guidelines from the CDC and update our policy accordingly. For additional information, please refer to our Code of Conduct at Posit.

What do I do if I think someone has violated the conference code of conduct?

If you observe any behavior that violates our Code of Conduct, please report it to the conference registration desk (not the hotel concierge desk), or call our monitored phone (844-448-1212). Our Code of Conduct is available for review here.

I would prefer not to have my picture or video taken. What can I do?

If you prefer not to have your picture or video taken, please inform us during registration, and we will provide you with a different color lanyard to signal to other participants and organizers that you would like to maintain your privacy.

Accessibility

I will require some assistance getting around the venue as I use a wheelchair. Who can help me?
