Unlock your Posit Platform’s full potential, turning usage data into actionable insights

A collage of screenshots from a software platform. The top left features a title "FALL 2025 PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT." Below this, a dark-themed user interface shows various panels. One panel, titled "Recently Active Users," displays a table with columns for "First Name," "Last Name," "Email," "Role," and "Last Active." Another panel, "WorkBench Metrics," contains graphs showing "WorkBench Session Pods" and "WorkBench IDE Sessions." A third panel is titled "Chronicle Agent Status" and lists "Product," "Host," and "Last Reported." A bar chart below this shows "session_type" and "initiate_pro" data, indicating the count of sessions by duration limit. The overall image showcases different monitoring and user-activity tracking features of the software.

With improvements in the latest Posit Chronicle update and enhanced Posit Workbench metrics, you can transform raw usage data into intelligence. Combine that with existing metrics from Posit Connect, it’s now easier than ever to optimize operations, strengthen compliance, and prove the value of your data science investments.

Actionable insights

Posit Chronicle in Posit Workbench and Posit Connect offers a clear view into team engagement. Track active users, session counts, and usage frequency to understand adoption, ensuring resources are utilized effectively. Optimize compute and licensing by matching infrastructure and user access to real platform usage, helping reduce costs and eliminate unused resources.

Posit Chronicle simplifies compliance and reporting, letting you audit user and content activity with code-ready metrics. You can also visualize trends. Pair with your cost data, and you can support platform planning with hard numbers and clearly demonstrate return on investment.

We also enhanced Posit Workbench metrics that can be integrated directly into your Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tool, providing unified observability and proactive insights. This means faster issue resolution by quickly identifying performance bottlenecks and user issues, resolving problems swiftly, and unlocking team productivity. These metrics offer comprehensive user and session monitoring within your APM of choice.

Deeper, easier auditing and less risk

For administrators, Posit Team offers robust features to strengthen auditing capabilities and minimize risk, helping you ensure accountability and security. Admins can track who authored what, accessing detailed logs for completed jobs and developer sessions to support code accountability and compliance. Admins can also monitor user activity at the session level, capturing actions in real-time to understand platform usage and flag unusual behavior promptly.

For users, these new auditing capabilities in Posit Workbench improve reproducibility by optionally recording the environment, inputs, and outputs of specific RStudio Pro batch jobs , ensuring trust in results and supporting critical workflows.

Posit Team also helps prevent security risks at publish time by flagging Connect content that includes packages with known Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), catching vulnerabilities before they go live.

We simplified auditing workflows by providing exportable logs across Workbench and Connect, saving time and helping you meet governance requirements.

Use cases

There are many use cases for these enhancements, and I will highlight three.

Chargebacks:

Session duration logs help with chargeback scenarios across multiple internal business units. For example, one large US government department has teams across internal business units using Posit tools. The CDO’s office prefers for each business unit to pay towards the overall cost according to their level of usage. These new Workbench metrics enable this use case.

Behavioral analysis for optimization:

On Workbench, user-level logs assist with answering behavioral questions about the popularity of specific IDEs, typical resources selected, and environment images in use, helping teams

  • optimize resource profiles for various kinds of users or groups, so each group stays productive while not over or underutilizing computational resources
  • adopt the right environments by deprecating unused images, migrating to approved R/Python versions, and more, all to help you stay compliant and move forward

Prove your return on investment (ROI):

By leveraging Chronicle and enhanced Posit Workbench metrics, along with metrics available from Posit Connect, organizations can gain a comprehensive understanding of their Posit platform usage, optimize resources, strengthen security, and empower both administrators and users. Pair these metrics with your own cost data to transform your product usage data into a strategic asset, unlock proactive planning, and prove your ROI.

Next steps
