We’re excited to announce the 2025.03.0 update to the Posit Professional Drivers, a set of ODBC data connectors for some of the most popular databases. Posit Professional Drivers are free to use with other professional products like Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, and Posit Package Manager.

The Posit Professional Drivers package can now be installed on Ubuntu 24.04 distributions. Some features included with this release include:

  • Expanded platform support on Ubuntu Noble 24.04.
  • Enhanced SQL Server reliability: Multi-subnet failover support minimizes downtime and improves application resiliency.
  • Improved Netezza security: Added support for SHA256 authentication.

This release addresses several issues, including:

  • Athena – When using parenthesis in queries, the connector returns a fetch error.
  • Bigquery – The driver now retries failed attempts to read rows from gRPC when errors are indicated by the “UNAVAILABLE,” “INTERNAL,” or “UNKNOWN” error codes.
  • Cassandra – The connector returns incorrect values for the Inet data type when compared with older versions.
  • Oracle –  When using prepared queries the variable type was not bound.
  • Snowflake – SQLProcedures() does not list stored procedures that return a table without a column definition.
  • Teradata – When converting time, the connector converts the hour, minute, and second, but not the fractions of a second.

It also includes enhancements, security updates, and bug fixes for:

  • Athena
  • BigQuery
  • Cassandra
  • Netezza
  • Oracle
  • Postgresql
  • Redshift
  • Salesforce
  • Snowflake
  • SQL Server
  • Teradata

Installing and Upgrading

Starting with the 2024.03.0 release of the Professional Drivers, installation using the legacy odbc-install.sh script is no longer supported.

To install the most recent version of the ODBC drivers, please use a supported installation method:

We strongly encourage all customers to install the latest release of the Posit Professional Drivers.

Upgrading drivers takes minutes and can help prevent security and administrative issues.

About

Posit offers ODBC drivers for many common data sources at no additional cost to current paying customers. The drivers are commercially licensed and are covered by the Posit Support Program.

Posit Professional Drivers may only be used with other Posit professional software and may not be used on a standalone basis or with other software.

We do not sell or offer Posit Professional Drivers for use with our free and open-source server or desktop software and our license doesn’t permit the drivers to be used with these products.
