Today, we are excited to announce major updates to the Posit Team Native App on Snowflake, featuring zero-configuration AI integration, automated upgrades, and new cost-control tools.

 

Interactive and governed insights with Snowflake Cortex  

Data scientists want to use Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate their productivity, but security teams need to ensure data privacy. The new Posit Team update solves this dilemma by integrating directly with Snowflake Cortex LLMs.

This integration allows customers to keep their data and AI workloads entirely within the secure Snowflake ecosystem. Because tools like the Positron Assistant and Databot now use Snowflake Cortex to access LLMs, each interaction now follows Snowflake’s strict governance guardrails, which ensures that no external training or unauthorized usage of data occurs.

Zero-Configuration Access When users launch the Positron IDE with the Positron Assistant enabled, the system now “automagically” configures Snowflake Cortex as the LLM backend using your existing managed credentials. This avoids the need for users to generate or manage their own API keys. As of this blog release, we are introducing the following models through Snowflake Cortex: Claude Haiku 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4, GPT-5, GPT-4.1.



Introducing Auto Suspend: compute cost optimization in Posit Workbench

We are introducing two powerful new ways to ensure you only pay for the compute that you actually use for your Workbench session.

  1. Inactivity Suspension Admins can now enable an inactivity timeout in the Admin dashboard. If a Workbench service sits idle for 60 minutes, the service automatically suspends. This prevents “zombie” sessions from running overnight or over the weekend, potentially resulting in significant savings on compute credits.
  2. Programmatic Start/Stop For even more granular control, we have exposed stored procedures which administrators can use to perform start and stop operations using Snowflake Tasks —for example, automatically shutting down the Workbench service at 8 PM and spinning it back up at 7 AM.

 

Faster resolutions with enhanced diagnostics

We have streamlined the troubleshooting process to reduce back-and-forth interactions.

Admins can now generate a comprehensive diagnostics bundle directly from the Posit Team landing page. By clicking the new “System” button, you can instantly download a .tar.gz archive containing all the necessary logs and context for your products. Attaching this single file to your support ticket gives our team important context to start solving your problems immediately, reducing any to and fro.


Improving admin quality of life with automatic upgrades

With this release, the Posit Team Native App now supports automatic upgrades.

Admins no longer need to plan for manual intervention windows. The Posit Team Native App container—as well as the underlying Workbench and Connect services—will now update automatically during maintenance windows. This ensures your users always have access to the latest features without adding to your platform team’s administrative burden.
