Announcing Posit Workbench on Google Cloud Workstations

At Posit, we believe powerful things can happen when people have access to the tools they need to turn data into answers with code. That’s why we’re pleased to announce the availability of Posit Workbench on Google Cloud Workstations, in public preview – a new way for R and Python developers to get access to their favorite code editors like RStudio, Jupyter Notebooks, JupyterLab, and VS Code in secure development environments on Google Cloud.
Cloud Workstations enables administrators and platform teams to easily provision, scale, manage, and secure development environments so developers can quickly get started coding right from their browser. Cloud Workstations helps you onboard developers quickly and increases developer productivity by providing a consistent development environment tailored to your organization’s needs.
As part of the general availability of Cloud Workstations, you can now provide R and Python developers with access to their favorite open-source editors with Posit Workbench, which supports RStudio, Jupyter Notebooks, JupyterLab, and VS Code.
Administrators can create workstation configurations, which define environment configurations, consistent machine types, IDEs, and other settings for users. Workstation configurations are made available according to IAM policy, so data teams with different needs can easily access different workstation configurations, while following the principle of least privilege.
