Posit and the GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) protects the privacy of individuals within the European Union and addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. Although it is an EU regulation, Posit has adopted its guidelines for all personal data we control or process.

We encourage anyone seriously interested in what personal data we collect on our website(s) or in our products and how we protect it to read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. These documents define our entire privacy and data protection obligations to you.

For those interested in understanding what we do with personal data in less formal language, here is an overview we hope you will find useful.

Posit Websites

  • Our treatment of personal data provided by you on our websites complies with the GDPR. Our websites, including posit.co, only collect information you give us by visiting our pages (IP addresses) and completing our forms (requests for information, support tickets, event or account registration, billing, etc.).

Posit Cloud Services

  • Posit is a data processor with respect to data processed by Posit Cloud Services, including posit.cloud and shinyapps.io. Posit maintains appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security, confidentiality, integrity and availability of data processed by Posit Cloud Services. All communication between customers and Posit Cloud Services is encrypted with HTTPS. Within Posit Cloud Services, data at-rest is also encrypted. Posit has entered into a Data Processing Addendum with its Cloud Services hosting provider, Amazon Web Services, which can be found at https://d1.awsstatic.com/legal/aws-gdpr/AWS_GDPR_DPA.pdf. Customers of Posit’s Cloud Services may request Posit’s Data Processing Addendum (DPA) by contacting dataprocessingaddendum@posit.co.

Posit Software

  • Your data used with Posit Software installed on computers you control is your responsibility. No agreement with us specific to the GDPR and Posit Software is necessary. Any data you use with Posit Software - including the open source or Pro versions of the Posit IDE and Shiny Server, or Posit Connect - is controlled and processed entirely by you. We do not have any visibility into your user data or to any data you control or process on your computers.
  • We do not request any personal data from you when you download our free and open source Software from our website. However, as described above, we capture IP addresses of website visitors, including logging your IP address when you download Posit Software.

For any further questions about our privacy policy or terms of use, please email info@posit.co or contact your Posit Customer Success representative.
