Announcing the 2025 Table and Plotnine Contests

We are so excited to announce that both the 2025 Table Contest and 2025 Plotnine Contest start today! These contests give you the opportunity to showcase your visualization skills. We pledge to hold these two contests every year (the table contest is in its 5th year!) because we are always in awe of what people submit.
See these pages to enter:
The deadline for both contest submissions is Friday, October 3, 2025.
Past winners of the Table Contest
If you think tables are just a bit boring, you ought to check out the tables submitted to the Table Contest over the past few years! Because of a whirlwind of development for table-display packages on the R and Python sides, tables have been reinvigorated and revivified. The fruits of this labor have been polished, beautiful, information-laden tables.
Case in point is last year’s winner for the 2024 Table Contest. It’s a table full o’ music nestled inside a Quarto Dashboard. That you get to listen to music from the table is technically amazing and, more importantly, lots of fun. Be sure to follow the links and see more on this table and how it was made!

Once you begin to plumb the depths of tables as a visualization medium, you’ll realize that they are just as worthy of our admiration as the venerable plots.
Past winners of the Plotnine Contest
While the Plotnine Contest is the new kid on the block, the inaugural contest was chock-full of amazing entries! The absolutely amazing weather forecast plot shown here blew our collective minds so much in the 2024 contest that it was crowned the winner. Just take a look at all the details inherent in this visualization. If you didn’t know it was generated via plotnine, you’d probably think it was an actual weather application!

I encourage you to check the Winners of the 2024 Plotnine Plotting Contest. There were many wonderful entries and some incredible plots on display in that post.
Win fabulous prizes
Traditionally, we have mailed stickers and sometimes offered little trinkets. There’s more than enough swag to go around. This year we’ll have a few more surprises in store with regard to prizes and we will keep you apprised of those developments!
All skill levels welcome
You don’t have to be a table or plotting wizard. Even just a simple table or plot will do. Basically, all skill levels are encouraged to apply and we’ll find ways to celebrate and showcase those tables and plots.
You’ll find more information on submission requirements at the respective submission sites. Generally, we ask that people submit their code, provide the crucial table or plot output (could be a screenshot, but runnable code is better), and document any requirements.
Wrapping up
We’re excited for your submissions! See the table contest homepage for background, and the call for submissions pages for the 2025 Table Contest and 2025 Plotnine Contest.
