Our annual event, posit::conf(2024), is just around the corner, and we want you to know a few things before you go!

Navigating the posit::conf(2024) agenda

Talks are grouped into four breakout sessions at each time, each lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes and consisting of four talks categorized into a similar theme. These allow you to see a collection of related talks without having to move rooms.

For in-person attendees, check out the conf schedule app. Create your itinerary on your Apple or Android device. You can also enjoy one of the quiet rooms on Level 6 at the hotel to live stream a keynote or talk on the event portal.

Virtual folks, create your schedule and watch live streams on the event portal.

More than just talks

  • Meals: Coffee and tea will be served each day of the conference starting at 7:00 a.m. and during the breaks and lunches. The hotel has a market on the second floor with grab-and-go items and many nearby coffee shops and eateries that offer breakfast. Lunch will be served each day of the conference.
  • Participate in a Birds of a Feather (BoF) event. BoFs are short, scheduled sessions where people from similar backgrounds meet during posit::conf. BoFs include industry-specific groups such as academic research, finance, and pharma.
  • Join us in The Lounge! Starting on August 13, come hang out and chat with Posit employees about how you do data science in your day-to-day, what challenges you’re facing, how to learn or teach R and Python on a broad scale, or check out the latest in our open source packages. You may even bump into your favorite package developer or software engineer.
  • Connect with the community and our partners at other social events:
    • Opening reception on Monday evening.
    • Lunch & Learn with our partners Atorus (8/13) and ProCogia (8/14).
    • conf::carnival on Tuesday evening. Enjoy drinks, desserts, and carnival treats with live jazz music, carnival games, board games, and more entertainment.
    • conf::contest: Complete a couple of short tasks, answer a few quiz questions, and get entered to win a prize! Details at pos.it/contest.
    • conf::funstats: We used Posit tools to build a short survey of fun questions and a slide presentation of real-time data visualizations about our in-person and virtual attendees from around the world. Add your data and enter for a chance to win various prizes. Details revealed during conf!
    • R-Ladies Seattle/PyLadies Seattle community mixer on Wednesday evening. This event is open to the public and attendees of posit::conf — community members who are not registered for posit::conf may attend. Register on Meetup.

Virtual experience (for in-person and virtual folks)

  • Watch the keynotes and talks via live stream. Starting on August 13, the live streams will be available on the posit::conf(2024) event portal. Tune in and ask questions alongside other attendees via Sli.do.

What to do in Seattle

As someone who lived in Seattle for eight years, I have many recommendations! Feel free to find me at the front desk or on Discord for more 🤓

Restaurants

    • Din Tai Fung: Delicious Taiwanese dim sum, located blocks from the hotel.
    • Tavolàta: Tasty Italian rustic cuisine in Belltown (~18-minute walk from the hotel).
    • Mamnoon: Fantastic Mediterranean fare in Capitol Hill (~11-minute walk from the hotel).
    • Dick’s Drive-In: Get your fill of burgers, hand-cut fries, and shakes.

    Things to do

    • Pike Place Market is one of the oldest farmers’ markets in the U.S., famous for its fresh produce, seafood, and unique shops. Check out the original Starbucks and the Gum Wall (there are two kinds of people: those who find the Gum Wall fascinating and those who find it disgusting).
    • Space Needle is an iconic landmark offering panoramic views of the city and beyond. Located near the Space Needle are the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum and the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP).
    • The Olympic Sculpture Park is an outdoor park filled with modern sculptures and beautiful views of Puget Sound.
    • Stroll along the Seattle Waterfront. If you’d like, take a ferry to Bainbridge Island.
    • The Duck Tour is a great way to see a lot of Seattle in a short amount of time. There are also boat tours on Puget Sound.
    • Take a hike at Discovery Park, Gasworks Park, the Arboretum, or Magnuseum Park. On the weekends, adventurers can take a bus to the Mt. Si (pronounced like ‘sigh’) or Teneriffe trailheads.

We can’t wait for posit::conf(2024)! We’ll see you very soon. Questions? Please email conf@posit.co.
