Positron at posit::conf(2025) Roundup

At posit::conf(2025), Jonathan McPherson’s keynote, “10 Years of Data Science Tools… and What Happens Next,” provided a look at the principles behind building effective data science tools. He shared reflections from more than a decade of work on RStudio and how those ideas have been carried forward to Positron, Posit’s new Integrated Development Environment.

Positron enables data scientists to effectively work with Python, R, and other languages within a single, unified interface, streamlining development workflows and reducing context switching. Positron is now generally available on Desktop and Workbench.

Here is a roundup of the exciting news regarding Positron:

  • Positron Assistant: This is a native AI that helps you write and debug code by making suggestions to accelerate development quality. You can learn more about responsible AI with Positron.
  • Databot: This new, experimental data exploration agent explores and visualizes data, then recommends next steps while keeping you in the loop. You can learn more about Databot and how it is not a flotation device.
  • Posit Publisher: You can deploy directly to Posit Connect Cloud from Positron using the Posit Publisher.

You can watch Jonathan’s keynote on the posit::conf(2025) portal (please note, a registration is required to watch the on-demand video). Register here.

We’re not done yet. We have multiple opportunities to see Jonathan’s principles in action, both in person and virtually:
