Decide what happens to your data

Posit AI Pass has Zero Data Retention agreements with our model providers, so they don't store your prompts or responses or use them for training. Posit doesn't keep them either, unless you opt in to help improve the service. You can change that choice in My Settings.

Don't enter highly sensitive data, such as health or financial information or government ID numbers. If your work involves data like this, connect Posit Assistant to an approved provider or a local model through Ollama or LM Studio.

What is Posit AI Pass?

Posit AI Pass is a subscription that powers Posit Assistant in RStudio, Positron, and the terminal. It also works with ellmer and chatlas for your own code. It's $20/month with $15 in Posit Assistant credits each month, and new subscribers pay $5 for their first month.

Is there a free trial?

No. Requiring a card at sign-up helps keep Posit AI Pass sustainable for the data scientists and analysts who use it. New subscribers pay $5 for the first month instead of $20 and still get the full $15 in credits. The $5 price is for first-time subscribers.

How do credits work?

Your subscription includes $15 in Posit Assistant credits each month. Included credits reset at the start of each billing month and don't roll over. Models use credits at different rates, so your choice of model changes how far your credits go.

What happens if I run out of credits?

You can buy more credits at any time, from $20 to $250 per purchase, or turn on auto-recharge and set an optional monthly cap between $15 and $500. Purchased credits stay valid for 12 months and need an active subscription.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from the Billing page and you keep access until the end of your current billing month, with no further charges. Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires, as described in the Posit AI Service Terms.

Which models does Posit AI Pass include?

The lineup changes as models improve, and the model picker in Posit Assistant shows what's current.

No. You can bring your own API key or subscription from another provider, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry, or run a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. Posit AI Pass gives you the whole lineup in one place with no keys to manage.

Can I use my Claude Pro or Claude Max subscription?

No. Anthropic doesn't let third-party services like Posit AI Pass draw on its consumer plans. You can connect an Anthropic API key to Posit Assistant instead.

What is Posit Assistant?

Posit Assistant is a data science agent that runs in RStudio, Positron, and the terminal. It connects to your live R and Python sessions to write, debug, and explain code based on the work in front of you. Posit Assistant runs on Posit AI Pass or on a model provider you choose.

Does Posit Assistant work with Python?

Yes. Posit Assistant is included by default in Positron, where you can use it to analyze data in R or Python.

Is my data used to train AI models?

Posit AI Pass has Zero Data Retention agreements with our model providers, so they don't store your prompts or responses or use them to train their models. Posit uses your data to improve the service only if you opt in when you create your account. If you opt in, Posit may keep trace data for up to 5 years. If you don't, Posit keeps only basic operational data, not your prompts or responses, for 30 days.

Do you offer discounts for students or educators?

Not yet. We're exploring options for the academic community.

How is Posit Assistant different from GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude Code?

Posit Assistant reads your live data frames, loaded packages, and environment, so it works from your actual data instead of your files alone. It includes data science skills for tidymodels, scikit-learn, Shiny, and Quarto. If you already pay for model access, you can connect that provider and skip a second subscription.
