Posit Professional Drivers 2024.03.0: Support for Apple Silicon
We’re excited to announce the 2024.03.0 update to the Posit Professional Drivers, a set of ODBC data connectors for some of the most popular databases. Posit Professional Drivers are free to use with other professional products like Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, and Posit Package Manager.
Apple Silicon Support
On macOS, the following ODBC connectors are now a Universal driver that natively supports Apple silicon (M1/M2/M3 ARM chips):
You can now start using the universal macOS drivers in RStudio Desktop Pro.
Apple silicon support is not available yet for the Athena, Hive, Impala, MongoDB, and Oracle drivers.
Included with this release
- FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) module support for Cassandra, MySQL, Netezza, and Oracle
- The Spark and Databricks drivers, which integrate with Posit Workbench
This release resolves the following issues:
- MySQL - When executing the
LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILEcommand, the connector loads the data incorrectly - Oracle - When there is more than one bound parameter, the connector incorrectly reports the error
- SQL Server - When connecting to failover cluster with readonly Application_Intent, the connection fails
It also includes enhancements, security updates, and bug fixes for:
- Cassandra
- MySQL
- Netezza
- Oracle
- SQL Server
- Teradata
For a complete list of changes, please refer to the release notes.
Installing and upgrading
Starting with the 2024.03.0 release of the Professional Drivers, installation using the legacy odbc-install.sh script is no longer supported.
To install the most recent version of the ODBC drivers, please use a supported installation method:
- Install the Professional Drivers for use with Posit Connect and Posit Workbench
- Install the Professional Drivers in RStudio Desktop Pro
We strongly encourage all customers to install the latest release of the Posit Professional Drivers.
Upgrading drivers takes minutes and can help prevent security and administrative issues.
